Tehran has signalled that vessels using the Strait of Hormuz could be required to pay fees as Iran and Oman discuss new arrangements for managing the strategic waterway following the US-Iran agreement.

Speaking at a press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the Strait of Hormuz remains a vital national security concern for Iran and that discussions are ongoing with other parties regarding future procedures governing maritime transit.

Israel to continue operation despite draft deal: 

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israel’s military will remain in security zones in 

• Lebanon, 
• Syria and 
• Gaza “without any time limit” to protect border communities from what he called “jihadist elements”. 

The statement came hours after US President Donald Trump announced a deal 

with Iran and ordered the lifting of the US naval blockade. “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I are leading a clear policy,” Katz said. 

The Lebanese army also urged residents returning to southern border villages and towns to exercise caution following reports that the preliminary US-Iran agreement includes an immediate halt to military operations in Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump announced that the US and Iran had reached a deal, saying Washington would 

lift its naval blockade of Iran.

 “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” Trump posted on Truth Social. Iranian state TV claimed Tehran had forced the US to accept the agreement. Details of the deal were not immediately released.

What comes next: 

A deal signing ceremony is expected in Switzerland 

on June 19, with US Vice President JD Vance confirming his attendance and saying President Donald Trump may also join.

 The memorandum of understanding is expected to launch 60 days of further negotiations. Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif said the ceasefire is “now in place”, with reports of him attending.

Iran’s Mehr news agency went further, reporting that the US would also commit to withdrawing its forces from around Iran and present a plan for rebuilding the country’s shattered economy.

 “The United States and its allies must submit plans for Iran’s reconstruction worth at least $300 billion,” the agency reported.

Roadmap for Iran’s nuclear programme

One of the central elements of the proposed deal involves Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

Release of frozen Iranian assets

Another reported component of the agreement is the release of Iranian assets frozen abroad worth $24 billion, alongside fresh nuclear negotiations and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Access to these funds has been a long-standing demand of Tehran and could form part of the incentives offered in exchange for nuclear concessions.
